The School of Finance at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) established in 1995. It has grown to include six departments: Finance, Financial Engineering, Financial Management, Asset Appraisal, Insurance, and Investment.


Aligned with SUIBE's vision of becoming a "high-level, internationalised institution with distinctive characteristics", the School integrates closely with national strategies and aims to contribute to Shanghai's development as an international financial centre. With the mission "to create frontier knowledge, nurture exceptional talent, support national strategies, and contribute Chinese wisdom", the School is committed to becoming a world-renowned School of Finance, recognized for its unique characteristics and leadership in innovation.


The School has formed a complete talent cultivation system, spanning undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. It encompasses six undergraduate majors—Finance, Financial Engineering, Financial Management, Asset Appraisal, Insurance, and Investment—as well as five academic master's programs, three professional master's programs, a doctoral program in finance, and a postdoctoral research station. The master's degree program in finance is one of the first five master's degree programs in finance in Shanghai. Our finance major is recognized as a national-level distinctive major, while the programs of finance, financial engineering and financial management have been approved as construction sites for national first-class undergraduate majors. In the 2024 best Chinese university ranking, our university ranks 12th in Chinese financial and economic universities.


In terms of teaching facilities, we are equipped with state-of-the-art digital platforms such as a Digital Finance Laboratory, the laboratory for going global financial services and data science, and two national experimental education centers. These resources enable us to employ innovative teaching methods. Through smart classrooms, online learning platforms, and virtual simulation labs, we facilitate the efficient sharing of international educational resources, and improve the quality of talent cultivation.


We have established the Digital Finance Industry Institute, which has been approved as one of as one of the first-batch key modern industry institutes at the municipal level in Shanghai. We conduct in-depth cooperation with industries and enterprises to achieve deep integration of the educational, industrial, innovation, and talent development chains.


The School places Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability (ERS) at the core of its educational philosophy. We've established a comprehensive ERS ecosystem that permeates every stage of teaching and learning.


Regarding career prospects, our graduates are primarily employed in the financial and industrial sectors and are highly praised by employers. According to the 2023 National Universities Graduate Salary Index, our graduates' salary index ranked 4th in Chinese financial and economic universities and 1st in Shanghai's financial and economic universities, with graduates of the School of Finance leading the way.


The faculty of the School of Finance are highly research-active, focusing on advancing theoretical and empirical knowledge in finance, economics, and management. Their work significantly supports discipline development. In recent years, they have undertaken nearly 100 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and the National Natural Science Foundation, among other provincial and ministerial-level initiatives.


Our faculty and research collaboration demonstrate notable internationalisation, with 68% of faculty members having overseas education or visiting experience. We regularly host international academics and industry experts for collaborative teaching and research. This has led to the publication of over 100 SSCI papers in five years. Additionally, our faculty have presented at 33 international conferences over the past five years.


The School has progressively enhanced its international certifications and social impact, receiving recognition from the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program and the Society of Actuaries (SOA) UCAP Advanced Program. We actively participate in global cooperation networks, establishing stable, long-term relationships with nearly 40 internationally renowned universities and institutions, involving student exchanges, joint research, faculty exchanges, and dual-degree programs. As one of the earliest Sino-Canada cooperative dual degree program, SUIBE-Douglas joint program established in 1998, and students have a wide influence both at home and abroad.


We have co-developed courses with industry partners and established ties with over 40 financial institutions, technology firms, and government agencies to align teaching with industry needs. The School advances applied-oriented research to boost regional economies. We have more than 10 research centers which collaborate with national strategic zones such as the G60 Science and Technology Innovation Valley and the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, conducting research for governments and businesses. The School also promotes social responsibility through experiential learning and community programs such as "Finance for National Development" and the "Dandelion Volunteers" initiative.
