The Central and Eastern European Studies Center of SUIBE
The Central and Eastern European Studies Center of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) was established in May 2012 and was among the first group of Centers for Country and Regional Studies registered with the Ministry of Education. In September 2019, it was approved as a Shanghai Municipal University Think Tank.
Relying on SUIBE’s five major disciplines—Economics, Management, Literature, Law, and Science—and building on the three Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms jointly established with the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, the University of Zagreb in Croatia, and the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice in the Czech Republic, the Center brings together academic strengths from programs such as International Economics and Trade, Finance, Law, Business Administration, Linguistics and Literature, and International Politics. It conducts interdisciplinary research on the economic and social development of Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries from multiple disciplinary perspectives.
Focusing on the member states of the “China–CEECs Cooperation Mechanism,” the Center conducts research closely aligned with frontier issues and key topics in CEE studies. Major research themes include EU integration and its implications for CEE, economic and trade development strategies, CEE languages and cultures, politics, education, and foreign relations. The Center organizes academic conferences, seminars, forums, reports, and information-sharing sessions related to CEE; compiles, edits, and publishes research outputs, data collections, and proceedings; and collects and disseminates academic materials and information on CEE from China and abroad.
The Center will continue to strengthen its roles in academic research, talent cultivation, policy consultation, and international exchange in the field of CEE studies. It aims to become an influential think tank and talent development base for CEE country and regional studies in China, providing consultation services to relevant government departments and social institutions involved in foreign affairs.
